Mary Abigail Orne Portrait Detail |
Description |
Framed oil painting of Mary Abigail (Abbie) Orne, painted in the 1800's by an unknown artist. According to the donor, the painting hung in her mother's dining room for decades. The mother's name was Joanne Laskey deGraffenried, and 4 generations of her family are interred in Waterside Cemetery (Laskey, Cunningham, Orne and Hawkes). Her mother wished the painting to be donated to Abbot Hall. The donor's family have conferred on the subject of the painting and are quite certain that it is Mary Abigail Orne. Mary Abigail Orne was born in Marblehead on Sept. 16, 1842, the daughter of Adoniram Collins Orne and Abigail Becket Hawkes Orne. She married the Reverend William Formosa on Dec. 24, 1868. Mary Abigail died on Nov. 21, 1907, in Florida, Mass. |
