A 34' x 23 1/2" bronze "Schooner Hannah" plaque, 1775 - 1925, by F. Bocshow in 1926. The plaque reads as follows: Schooner Hannah, The First American Warship regularly commisioned by authority derived from the United Colonies of North America. Commissioned by General George Washington. Commanded by Captain Nicholson Broughton of Marblehead. Fitted out, commanded and manned by Men of Marblehead. Commemorating the birth of the American Navy at Marblehead, Massachusetts, June 17, 1775. 1775 - 1925. |
