This file contains 35 slips of papers which are orders to the Town Treasurer (W. Joshua Prentiss) to pay to the person noted on the slip a sum of money denominated in Pounds, Shillings and pence on the order of the Selectmen some are signed by the Town Clerk (Ira Felton) while some are signed by the members of the Board of Selectmen and the Overseers of the Poor All slips are dated in the year 1787. Most of them have been made worthless by cutting a diamond shape hole in the center. The others have "Paid" written across the face of the note. In addition this file contains a letter from John Everton dated March 5, 1787 in which he was "Obliged to Discount one third part of the Value thereof and hopes the Town will take it into their Serious and wise Consideration and Adapt Such Measures that I shall be no loser, but that the full Value of these Notes may be made up to me by the Town-" Dated March 5th, 1787 |
