This file contains: 1) Two letters dated February 13 and 15, 1899, from Daniel Appleton, Secretary of the Library Trustees, to Everett Paine, Esquire, cashier of National Grand Bank and Treasurer of the Town of Marblehead, discussing several errors in the accounts of the Trustees of the Library and their corrective action. 2) A hand made booklet titled "Marblehead, Gifts to Abbot Public Library, 1989, 1899, 1900," which is a report that describes items of historic significance donated to the library and is signed by library trustees, Nathanial P. Sanborn, William D.T. Trefry, Samuel Roads, Jr., Robert C. Bridge, Frank Broughton, Daniel Appleton and Francis A. Parker. 3) Ten sheets titled "List of orders drawn on their Treasurer by the Trustees of Abbot Public Library," dated monthly from April 4, 1898, to November 7, 1898, and January and February 1899. Two are signed by Daniel Appleton as secretary and several are signed by Nathan P. Sanborn as secretary. They comprise payments to various individuals and businesses: Mary G. Brown, Sarah E. Gregory, N. Allen Lindsey & Co, American Library Association, New York Times, Estes & Lauriat, Commercial Bulletin, Literary World, Samuel Roads, Jr., New York Tribune or bearer, Williard Small or bearer, Boston Bookbinding Co., Charles E. Lauriate Co., Essex County Mercury, Land of Sunshine, A.R. Taylor or bearer, F.J. Barnard & Co., Mrs. C. White, Woodfin Bros., Library Journal, Rudder Publishing Co., Essex Antiquarian, William D.T. Trefry, Gardner R. Hathaway, Merrill H. Graves. 4) Payment voucher, $2.50 paid to George Lowe for work at Abbot Hall on August 26, 1898. |
