This list contains six documents concerning town meeting and elections in Marblehead in the years 1760, 1762, 1763, &1764. 1.) The 1760 document is an order to the constable containing the list of persons and offices selected at Town Meeting requesting that they be assembled at the house of Mr. John Reed and be sworn in on March 19, 1760 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. The offices were: Town Clerk, one; Assessors, three; Constables, five; Tythingmen, nine; Clerks of ye Market, four; Surveyor and Fence Viewers, fourteen; Cullen (Cullers?) of fish, fifteen; Hogg reever, six; Surveyor of Lumber and Staves, six; Sealers of Leather, six; Meeting & Packen (sic), five; To see yrbe (sic) be no Destruction of Deer, one. 2.)The 1762 document is similar to the previous document except the meeting was to be at the Town House at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. The officers were similar to 1760 but with some additions and numbers of members: Town Clerk, one; Treasurer, one; Assessors, three; Wardens, six; Constables, five; Tythingmen, six; Clerks of ye Market, four; Surveyor and Fence Viewers, three; Cullers of fish, twentyone; Hogg reever, six; Surveyor of Lumber, five; Sealers of Leather, five; Meeters & Packers , five; To see there be no destruction of Deer, one. an addition of Firewards (to declare their acceptance or refusal), seven 3.) An order to the Constable to cause the Freeholders and other inhabitants to assemble at the Town House on Monday 9 May 1763 to elect & dispute a one or more persons to represent them at the Great and General Court in Boston which will meet on Wed. 25 May 1763. 4.)The return of the warrent by Robert Harris, Constable, about the meeting at the Town House on 9 May 1763 to select a representitive to the Great and General Court in Boston. 5.) The minutes of the Town Meeting convened on 21 March 1763 with the results of the voting for the various Town officers previously noted with the addition of six persons to a committee to take care no Ballast be thrown out of any vessell in the Harbor. A number of questions were discussed and voted on. The meeting was adjourned to the 4th day of April at 10 o'clock in the forenoon. 6.) This paper was originaly on sheet folded into four parts. It is now in three separate pieces and in danger of being four parts. It is a list (to Constable William Witty of a list of several Town Officers chosen at a Town Meeting on 12 March 1764 to be sworn in. |
