This folder, labeled "Schools," 1770-1779, contains the following: 1. Request for payment of two pounds to Burrill Devereux, April 7, 1777, submitted by Benjamin Boden, Town Clerk, for services in the Town School. Approved by Jonathan Glover, Town Treasurer. Payment received on September 20, 1777. 2. Request for payment of 70 pounds to Peter Jayne, submitted by Francis Felton, Town Clerk, March 12,1779, for "keeping the public school" in the year 1773. Approved by Jonathan Glover, Town Treasurer. 3. Request for payment to Peter Jayne of 125 pounds for "keeping" the town's school from December 23, 1778, to March 23, 1779. 4. Request by Peter Jayne, two orders, one for 114 pounds and one for five pounds for service "in keeping the Town School" from March 23 to June 23, submitted July 12, 1779. 5. Request by Peter Jayne for payment of 250 pounds for "keeping the public school" from March 23, 1779, to June 23, 1779, submitted August 13, 1779. 6. "Acceptance of Payment by Order of the Trustees of Schools in Marblehead" submitted to Isaac Mansfield, town treasurer, on March 23, 1772, for payment to Peter Jayne, 165 pounds for services from April 2, 1771, to February 29, 1772. 7. Request for payment of 12 pounds, 16 shillings for services as keeper of town schools from July 31, through December 1775, submitted December 12, 1775, to John Sparhawk, town treasurer, and to selectmen, James Mugford, Stephen Philips, William Doliber, Jeremiah Procter and Jonathan Glover. 8. "Account of Payments by Isaac Mansfield, Town Treasurer, by order of trustees of school, to Peter Jayne and Joshua Prentiss, 141 pounds, 6 shillings, for services from May 12, 1770, through March 1771. 9. Payment by order of trustees of schools to Peter Jayne, Burrill Devereux and Edward Weld, 110 pounds, 8 shillings for services from December 23, 1772, through March 18, 1773. 10. Payment to Hannah Coes for 13 pounds, 11 shillings, by order of School Committee, submitted to Isaac Mansfield, town treasurer, for services through March 21, 1774. 11. Request submitted by Benjamin Boden, town clerk, to Jonathan Glover, town treasurer, for payment of 3 pounds to Burrill Devereux for service in town schools, 12. Payment of 70 pounds to Peter Jayne for "keeping" the town's writing school from February 13, 1773, to February, 1774. 13. Payments to Michael Cohn, Peter Jayne and Burrill Devereux, 105 pounds, 8 shillings, for services in schools, submitted to Isaac Mansfield on March 21, 1774. 14. Petition to selectmen requesting that a meeting be held for consideration of the state of the schools and that masters of school continued to be paid. Signed by Benjamin Darling, John Reed, Francis Felton, John Clark, Henry Florance, Joseph Hamon, Samuel Hooper and others. 15.
