Newspaper article with photo titled "'Lead Mills' Property Sold for $81,500" appeared in an unidentified newspaper article. The property was bought at auction by David Todreas of Beverly. The photo is probably from sometime between 1961 and 1968. The original Lead Mills factory, started in 1840, was named the Forest River Lead Works. It was bought by and renamed Chadwick Lead Works in 1884. The factory burned in a fire in 1897. The factory was rebuilt but in 1961(?) the factory building burned again. The land was bought by Associated Grocers Co-operative of the North Shore to build a warehouse, seen in this photo. The warehouse was destroyed in a large fire in 1968. The article is 7-3/4 x 8-3/4 inches. |
