This folder, labeled "Schools," 1830-1835, contains the following: 1. The Town of Marblehead General Account in accord currently with the School Committee for year ending March 1, 1834. Shows amounts paid to teachers for monthof March as well as various expenses for a total of $2200.00. Signed by John Chandler, Chairman and Frank Knight, Clerk. 2. School Committee 1836 March - Amt. appropriated for the support of schools - $3500. Cash on hand $70.29 July 1837 received from State Treasury for Towns proportion of the school fund #173.73 - total $3744.02 1837 March - Payments for the schools and expenses for a total of $3507.22 pluce Balance unappropriated $236.80 - total $3744.02. 3. Notice - Having learned, since this blank form of Return was prepared, that some of the School Committees had not received the copies of the school laws, sent to them, last spring; I am induced to add, that the law now requires the Returns and the copies of the School Comittes Reports to be sent to the office of the secretary of State, "on or before the first day of May, annually" Horace Mann, Secretary of the Board of Education 4. Graves for teaching one of the primary school in Mugford Street for one month starting April 1830 thru October at $10. per month.
