This file contains handwritten receipted invoices for labor and/or materials for the assessors office. Also letters regarding valuation of property. 1. Letter from Office of the Mercantile Ins. Co. to the Assessors stating that the following persons own stock in their Corporation. Henry Hooper - 9 shares Hannah Reid 20 shares Pharis Shirley 10 shares. 2. Marblehead, August 1, 1856 - Recd. of State Treasurer for ac. of Selectmen of Marblehead $213 of Assessor services on State Census 1855. W.B. Brown, Treasurer 3. Boston, July 6,1852 = Gent Assessors of Marblehead - Letter requesting to know of Anne H. Dana is taxed? in Marblehead this year from Elish Vinton for the Assessors 4. Letter dated July 5, 1853 from Edmund Kimball for the Assessors stating he was unable to get the information from Wenham Collector of Taxes at this time. 5. Letter from Boston Valuation committee dated October 31, 1852 to the Assessors . asking for a certified return at what proportion of the true cash value you assessed property in 1849 or whether the value is the true cash value. 6. Boston, Aug. 12, 1850 to Jas Goodwin, Esq. from the Valuation committee stating the valuation on which the taxes of your town were made is just the thing the Valuation Committee will want. 7. Town to Thomas Evans 1857 March for services and expsnse to Boston as evidence in the case of seting of a part of Marblehead to Swampscot $43. recd. #94 10. Board of Selectmen to T. Boardman 1858 for Carriage hire for assessors 3 days $3.85. rec. #59 11. Selectmen of Edmund Lewis May 1856 for Labor and stock on Assessors Room $2.50. rec. #122 12. Board of Assesors to William H. Cloon 1856 for Ink, Paper Blank book, etc. $2.32. recd. #169 13. July 22, 1854 Selectmen to James Coffin for printing tax bills $8.00. recd. #71 14. Assessor to Thomas Breane July 2, 1855 for making Valuation Book and Collectors Book - $4.00. recd. #87 15. Board of Assessors to W.H. Cloon 1855 April thru August for blank books, printed paper, paper, pen holder for total of $3.67. recd. 16. Town to J.H. Brown for George Brown for assessing taxes $1.50 and horse and carriage for taking census $1.50 - $3.00. 18. Sept. 18, 1859 Assessors to J.H. As these papers were collected over a period of 10 years and were stored in various unknown buildings and places were retrieved and sorted by volunteers in 1965 (about 100 years after they were made) and remained apparently undisturbed since then the papers we have are in good condition. |
