Assessors Accounts-Tax Collector 1780-1791 1. A six page booklet on rag paper and written by hand about the accounts of the Town and money to be paid to the Commonwealth.including the names of Capt. William Hooper, John Gerry, Capt. Thomas Grant, John Goodwin, William Bacon, Seward Bramblecome, Capt. Peter Green, Thomas Vinning, Capt. Nathaniel Lindsey for the years 1779 through 1783, 2. A statement of the Several collecters Accounts with the Town Treasurer April 25, 1790: List of Taxes: 1784 Capt. Samuel Gale, Richard Homan, John Waitt, Thomas Jarvis, 1785 William Williams 1786 Capt. Richard James, Nathan Brown, Ebinezer Clough, William Rogers, 1788 capt. William Hooper, John W. Smithurst, Richard Martin, Capt. John russell 1790 Capt. John Dizey, Capt. Joseph Wilson, William R. Lee, Capt. Samuel Hooper, Capt. Samuel Horton, Capt. Benjamin T. Reis, Capt. Knott Martin 3. The following are to the Town Treasurer from the assessors Ira Felton, Thos.Gerry, Thomas Lewis, Thomas Gerry, Burrill Devereux for abatements: March 15, 1788 This certifies that the expences arriving from the improvemen t of Capt. Grants house, Fireing, Candles & Liquor for the past yer amount to twenty two pound Ten shilling. Aug. 8, 1878 - Please to discount with Mr. William Roigers twenty two pounds eight shilling. Sept. 29, 1787 - Please discount with Capt. Peter Green taxes for 1782 ninety three pounds. Oct. 11, 1786 - Please to discount the Mr. John Waitt the sum of twenty five pounds, fifteen shillings Oct. 4, 1787 Please to discount with Capt. Thomas Grant the sum of ninety four pounds eighteen shillings Jan. 25, 1788 Please to discount with John W. Smithurst the sum of four hundred and ninety seven pounds eighteen shillings. Sept. 28, 1787 Please to discount with Capt. Peter Green forty six pounds four shillings. Gerry,Thomas Gerry, Burrill Devereux, Thomas Felton, Frank Felton Henry Leech, Thomas Lewis, William Rogers for services as an assessor for taking acct of carriages, abating and adjusting, filing the tickets and making the statements 7. Various slips showing the amount the collectors turned in. |

As these papers were collected over a period of 10 years and were stored in various unknown buildings and places were retrieved and sorted by volunteers in 1965 (about 100 years or more after they were made) and remained apparently undisturbed since then the papers we have are in good condition. |
