This folder, labeled "Bequest to Town-Courts-Micklefield," contains the following items: 1. Report of minority of the committee chosen to consider the legacy of A.S. Courtis, having differed from the opinion of the majority. Two handwritten pages signed by Joshua Orne and J. Candler and accepted on March 16, 1839. 2. Report on the Courtis bequest, March 1839, signed by Francis Parton, James Gregory and Nathaniel Adams. 3. Warrant for town meeting to reconsider Courtis will, March 30, 1839. Warrant signed by Samuel S. Trefry, James Goodwin, J. Sparhawk and B. Lindsey, Selectmen, and Joseph Cloutman, Constable. 4. Petition of Joseph Hidden and others regarding the Courtis will, March 30. 1839. As these papers were collected over a period of 10 years and were stored in various unknown buildings and places were retrieved and sorted by volunteers in 1965 (about 100 years or more after they were made) and remained apparently undisturbed since then the papers we have are in good condition. However some have been water damaged. |
