"Overseers of the Poor, 1844" containing the following Items: 1. The Overseers Town of Marblehead to James Dixey Wilkins, August 2nd to drilling and blowing stone on the road 12 days for $24.00 2. Marblehead, Nov. 14, 1844 to Mr. J.H. Brown. Please to deliver John L. Richardson in order the sum of twenty five dollars and charge the same to the Overseers of the Poor, signed by Nicholas Chapman 3. The Town of Marblehead to Nath. Homan January 1st to cleaning the Hearse 6.5 months at one dollar per month. Received Pay $6.50 4. The Town of Marblehead to Wm. Laskey, April 2, 1844 to allowance for week 50 cents from January to April 1 - 13 weeks $6.50. Rec'd Pay to Wm. Laskey by John Orne 5. Town of Marblehead to Mrs. Mullet to allowance of Joseph Cox for his support to January 1st, 1844. Rec'd payment to Nicholus Chapman for Mrs. Mullet 6. Not readable 7. Sept. 30th to teaming 2 cord wood to Sarah Brimblecom, 2 cord wood to Mrs.Moet, 1 cord 4 feet wood to Mrs. Twisden, 1 cord 4 feet to Mrs. Pedrick and 1 cord 4 feet wood to Mrs. Read for a total of $3.40. Received Payment to Edmund Brown 9. Overseers of Poor to Sam Goodwin, 1844. Oct. 25, Services moving Sally Fish from Taunton and expenses $10.35 and .50 for cash for __?___. Dec. 24th services and expenses to Boston and Charlestown for $3.00 and .56 for a total of $14.41 total received payment 10. July 27th,1844 from J.H. Brown, please pay Richard Besom ten dollars and change the same to the Overseers of Poor signed by L. Goodwin 11. Town of Marblehead to, Overseers of Poor dated July 1844 to Richard Besom for 12 days work for haying for $15.00 12. Town of Marblehead to William Laskey, July 2, 1844 to allowance fee week from April 1 to July 1 (13 weeks) for $6.50. Rec'd Payment signed by John Orne for William Laskey 13. Town of Marblehead to Nicholas Chapman, 1844 to horse and carriage to Salem North Field $1.50, time all day cash pay for plowshead $2.60. Sept. 21 Expences to Beverly for Margaret Libbins for .50 cents, cash paid for deserving money Scallion 25 cents and J. Bessom for 50 cents for a total of 75 cents and time spent to Rockport $1.50. 52 days as deputy keeper for $52.00 and one new axe & handle $1.25, round pointed shovel for $1.00 for a total of $2.25 and one new hoe for 37 cents for a total of $61.47. Received payment 14. Town of Marblehead Overseers of Poor to Sam Goodwin for services as deputy keeper for 55 days, grocery money and cash for beef for a total of $65.00. Rec'd pay Oct. 1, 1844 15. The Town of Marblehead to the City of Boston,1844 from Jan. to November for cash paid for 2 feet of wood. Total was $50.50 signed by James Phillips. Names: Hannah Donson, Hannah Follett, Jane Lewis, Wm. Collyers, Sarah Hookers and Hannah Girdler 16. Town of Marblehead and signed by Phillip Strang and the amounts of said paper. (the amounts on the bill is $99.40) However, the rest is unreadable 17. Town of Marblehead to William Laskey dated Oct. 1, 1844. Supplies from July 1 to Oct at 50 cents per week $6.50 and for 12 feet of wood - $8.00. Rec'd Payment John Orne for William Laskey for $14.50 18. Charlestown, Nov. 2, 1844. William Merritt Kating was found in Charlestown destitute for a home and he is now in our Alms House - his settlement being in Marblehead we charge your town for the expense of his support and shall continue so to do until he shall be removed or otherwise provided for. Mrs. Rogers, an acknowledged Pauper of Marblehead has applied to us for assistance which has been granted the amount charged to your Town and we shall continue to charge you for further needed supplies until she is other provided for. Amount of bill brought over $25.14. Received payment James Turner for Board of Overseers 19. Town of Marblehead to George Knight, July 1844 to one day to Rock Port, $1.50 and $3.72 to caring for horse to be Chapman and August 24th to 6 ---- of fish at $14.00 and Sept 16 to half day to Lynn for $0.75 and Sept 21 to Salem & Beverly half day for $0.75 for a total of $20.42. Rec'd Payment 20. Town of Marblehead,1843. Nov. 8th to Peter Short for 4 feet of wood @2.75, Nov.17th to Widow Graves for 4 feet of wood @ 2.75, Dec. 18 to Mrs. Jane Clemens 4 ft for $3.00 and January 15, 1844 to Peter Short for $3.00, and Feb. 2 to Mrs. Graves for 4 feet at $3.00 21. Town of Marblehead, 1843. Nov. 8th - 4 feet of wood del. Peter Short - $2.75 17th - 4 feet of wood del. to Widow Graves - $2.75 Dec.18 - 4 feet of wood del. to Jane Clemens - $3.00 1844 - Jan. 15 - 4 feet wood del. to Peter Short $3.00 Feb. 2 - 4 feet wood del. to Mrs. Graves $3.00 Board of John Bessem from Dec. 25th to Jan 8th @1 doll. per week for $2.00 and Feb. 10th supplies to Ms. Northy from Nov. 3 to date @ 3/per week for $7.00 for total of $23.50. Rec Payment Thomas Bowler, Chairman of Overseers 22. Overseers of Poor to Samuel Goodwin. 1844 Jan. 25, Services and Expenses to Boston $2.75, Jan. 29 Services and Expenses to Salem $1.00, Feb. 19, Services & Expenses to Ipswich $2.75, Feb. 20, Services & Expenses to Salem $1.00 and R.H. French (in town for .12 cents) April 5, Services & Expenses Salem and Beverly $1.07 and April 13 to Cambridge for $1.00 and May 7 for Services & Expenses to South Boston for self and Deborah Clothy - $4.10. May 9, Services for Services & Expenses to Danvers & Beverly for $1.50 and Horse & waggon to Danvers, etc to $1.25. The 28th - one day and expenses Beverly, $1.00 and May 30th Worcester and Northbridge for $3.75 for a total of $21.29. Received Payment to Samuel Goodwin 23.The Town of Marblehead to the City of Boston, 1843 from Jan. to December for wood to the following: Hannah Denson, Hannah Follett, Jane Lewis, Sarah Hookers and Hannah Girdler in the amount of $55.00 to the City of Boston signed by James Philby 24. The Town of Marblehead to the City of Salem for wood and supplies in the amount of $243.88 and subtracted $130.43 of the Overseers of Town of Marblehead and School Committies for a final amount of $113.15 |
