This file contains 18 notes issued by the Town of Marblehead's treasurer for sums loaned to the Town from local persons. Many were for funds for the Overseers of the Poor House in the years 1822 to 1829. Another paper contains the details to reconcile the loans made by Israel Foster to the Town in the years from 1789 to 1808 requested by his Executor. In the years 1789 to 1793 the loans were denominated in Pounds, Shillings, Pence & fractions of Pence. From 1795 to 1808 they were denominated in Dollars and Cents. and with interest accrued of $746.36. The total was $3109.84. A tax of $8.04 was subtracted from that amount leaving $3848.16 The Town Treasurer paid $325.61 and borrowed from W. Samuel Knight $2057.00 and borrowed from William Hooper $1465.55 which covered the $3848.16 due to the estate of Foster.
