This file, labled "Census and Valuations," contains the following: 1. Receipt showing payment of $4.38 to Knott V. Martin for taking census of the Farms, February 11, 1846. Approved by John Orne, Benjamin Lindsey and Stephen Hathaway. 2. Receipt showing payment of $23 to J.C. Briggs for taking census, April 1848. 3. Receipt showing payment of $69 to Glover Broughton for taking census in the following order: number of houses, number of family in each house, names, ages and gender of individuals, occupation and place of birth, October 1, 1855. 4. List of propiretors of cow leases, 1846, including: Anna Robinson, Hannah Harris, John Orne, Hannah Martin, James Topham, John Harris, Francis Freeto, William Hawkes, John Sparhawk, Samuel P. Bassett, Stone Church, Knott Martin, Betsey Gallison, C. John Martin, Nicholas Tucker and R&M Harris. 5. Circular from Commonwealth of Massachusetts, An Act, outlinging rules for the taking of census in Massachusetts, passed 1840. 6. What appears to be (?) a handwritten rough and incomplete census, 1846. 7. Abstract of the Productions of Marblehead, 1845, agriculture, fisheries, manufacturers. 8. Abstract of taxes of Marblehead Neck and the Farms. 9. Request to William H. Brown from G. Broughton for a list of names dwelling at his father's upper and lower farm for the census. |
