This file, labeled "Court Cases-Individuals (sent to workhouse, MHD)," contains writs of mittimus from the Salem Police Court, committing people to the workhouse and/or house of correction for reasons and various dates, as follows: 1. Henry Quiner, laborer, October 17, 1849, for being drunk and intoxicated, and having failed to pay fine, was committed to workhouse. Samuel Day, Constable, Salem. 2. Moses Gilford, July 8, 1831, on complaint of Fred Chamberlain for disorderly conduct was committed to six months in the house of correction. John Gray, Constable, Salem. 3. Moses Gilford, April 8, 1831, on complaint of Peter Edgerly for disorderly conduct, cruel treatment of his wife and disturbing neighbors, committed to house of corrections for two months. John Gray, Constable, Salem. 4. Joseph Rankin, October 6, 1842, for being a common drunkard and being intoxicated, committed to workhouse for three months. 5. Elizabeth Smith, October 1, 1844, for being a common drunkard, committed to workhouse for two months. Oliver Adams, Constable, Salem. 6. Snow, June 4, 1847, on complaint of Peter Bateman for being a "common railer and brawler, and for making a great noise and disturbance on Marblehead streets, using profanity, making menacing speeches and committing divers other disorders and quarrels, and committed to workhouse for 10 days.
